A commitment to our community

A Pledge to Port Hope

If I have the privilege of serving as your Mayor, I will return the full amount of the Mayor's salary increase to charities serving Port Hope residents.

As a candidate for Mayor, I pledge to contribute the entire amount of the Mayor's salary increase back to our community.

I believe a 52.5% salary increase is simply too much to take from taxpayers at a time when many people in our community are struggling with the cost of food, housing and everyday necessities.

$765.46 every week. Over 52 weeks, that is $39,803.92. The final weekly donation of the year will be $765.54, making the total annual charitable contribution exactly $39,804 — the full amount of the salary increase.

My intention is that these donations benefit Port Hope residents. Before finalizing the recipients, I will confirm that the funds can be directed accordingly.

Where the Money Will Go

I am currently considering three charities whose work addresses immediate needs in our community:

Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank – Port Hope

Helping local individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Supporting people experiencing poverty, housing insecurity and other significant challenges.

The Rose Quest

Providing hygiene products and other basic necessities to people who need them.

I won't speak for what anyone else chooses to do, now or in the future. This is my decision. I do not believe I should personally benefit from such a substantial increase in taxpayer-funded salary while people in our community are struggling.
